Aiding A Worthy Cause

During the past 4 years, the Friends have sponsored an annual Holiday Boutique for children. The event was not intended to be a fundraiser for the library. Rather, it was an activity to be enjoyed by local children. Youngsters attending were able to purchase small holiday gifts at a nominal cost. Due to extremely generous donations of both time and materials by volunteers, the event has generated $731 to date.

It was brought to the attention of the Friends Board that this money was derived from children's participation in a non-fundraising event, and thus it was fitting that the funds should return back into the community for the benefit of local needy children. The Board decided, after research, that children residing at the Haven Hills Crisis Shelter fit the criteria.

Therefore, on February 23, Past President Millie Berger and Newsletter Editor Therese Hearn had the pleasure of meeting with Geri Keolanui of Haven Hills at Borders Books in Woodland Hills. Together, and with the assistance of a couple of very capable Border's clerks, it was possible to purchase 125 books at a generous discount.

Entertainment Books

Thanks to everyone who purchased a 2004 Entertainment Book and to the Bookstore volunteers who sold them. We are pleased to report that sales exceeded those of 2003. This year we earned approximately $450 for the benefit of Platt Branch.

Put some money aside now so you will be ready to purchase the new edition when it becomes available in September. In the meantime, remember it is possible to obtain a book for any location in the United States. Just give me a call.
