Elf Paula Connolly finishes up a tootsipop reindeer as craftmaster Millie Berger oversees.

Well! It's been a hectic couple of months, but at least we were well fed. The Pizza Cookery's Friends Night raised $95 for Platt Branch. Judging from the response November 7, this is a fundraising activity we should do more often.

Then to work! Led by craftmasters Millie Berger and Julie Booth, our Children's Boutique gift-creating elves crafted an amazing array of new items. You'll have to see them all displayed at the 3rd Annual Children's Holiday Boutique (Saturday, December 7, from 12 noon to 3 pm) to believe it. But the work won't be done until we've helped our young customers select their favorites and wrapped them. Calling all elves to come early and stay to tie bows!

Speaking of bows, Barnes & Noble invited the Friends to earn cash again by gift wrapping its customer's purchases. The Holiday Fund Wrap will take place at the Barnes & Noble in the Woodland Hills Promenade Mall. It's scheduled for Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. If you'd like to participate, sign up in the Bookstore or contact me directly. I'm also delighted to report that the 2003 Entertainment Book is selling like hotcakes. Packed with spectacularly practical coupons, the books not only save buyers hundreds of dollars, each purchase benefits Platt Library. Many thanks to Ethel Margolin for bringing this additional fundraiser into the Bookstore!

And so, we head into this season's festivities on a bright and cheery note. Thank you all for being so supportive of our fundraising efforts and making Platt Library one of the best endowed branches in the LAPL system. Happy holidays, everyone!
