President's Message

Oh my goodness, where does the time go! Here we are beginning 2002 (some say the real first year of the new millennium, others the second year).

Last year ended with a number of special events. Of course, the December 1 book sale was its usual profitable success. Thanks to Shel Schuster and Elaine Corman and their corps of volunteers for faithfully putting these sales together so many times during the year.

Fundraising Fun

Kudos go to Mary Ann Ostrom for organizing and obtaining huge donations of gifts for the December 8 Children's Holiday Boutique, and for arranging two wrapping sessions at Barnes & Noble. Look for following newsletter article describing these successful events.

Memorable Programs

December 3 brought a most entertaining presentation by Joanne Rocklin, children's book author. Also, on December 17, a recorder music program that added immensely to everyone's holiday spirit was given for library patrons by The West Hills Recorder Consort.

Now Friends are gearing up to make your coming year just as special.

February brings two major events. First: our regularly scheduled book sale on the 9th.Then we have a most interesting speaker scheduled for our General Membership Meeting on the 20th. Talk show host Kitty Felde will give us insights on KPCC's Book Club of the Air for Young Adults.

Friends Online

Glad you're here, and hope you'll be a regular visitor.

We will be updating the event calendar as schedule changes occur. What else can we do to make your online experience more appealing? Please email your suggestions to the webmaster.

New Year's Wishes

The Friends Board and Platt Library Staff hope to see you often in the library checking out books, visiting the bookstore, and attending events planned to keep you involved in your community.

Happy 2002!

Mildred Berger
President 2001 - 2002
