President's Message

A lot has happened since the last newsletter. We’ve had two successful book sales. Our September sale was very successful, despite the fact we were closed down Friday evening due to a nearby robbery. Book donations have been quite heavy; as a result, it was decided to have an extra sale in November. The Board voted to have all proceeds of this special sale designated for World Trade Disaster relief. Therefore, $2500 was donated to children’s support programs.

The Jester’s Mom

Our October 20th General Meeting was highlighted by Barbara Saltzman’s delightful presentation. She read from the book, The Jester Has Lost His Jingle, written by her late son, David Saltzman, and spoke on The Jester & Pharley Phund. Our thanks to Program Chairman, Frona DeCovnick, for providing such an interesting event.

Gift Boutique

Just in time for the holidays, we are pleased to hold our Children’s Holiday Boutique again. You will remember from last year that this is a special event for children. They may purchase Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza gifts for their family and friends at very nominal prices. The Chairman, Mary Ann Ostrom, promises a big selection of items. Don’t miss this one.

Season’s Thoughts and Thanks

When the sadness of events causes us to bow our heads in sorrow, it helps to raise our eyes from time to time and focus on the acts of kindness extended each day by those who work to make the world around us a better place. On behalf of the Friends of Platt Library Board, I would like to extend our deepest appreciation for your financial support, and for your faithful sharing of volunteer hours.

My personal wish for you is a holiday season full of the joy of shared happiness and the hope of a peaceful coming year.
